Visit to NGO – GOONJ

St. Cecilia’s Public school, Vikaspuri in a noble effort to contribute a helping hand to the less privileged joined hand with a NGO Goonj.  GOONJ, a non- governmental organization, is hard to working hard in bringing changes in rural India through the contribution of cloth (and other common household underutilized items).  School students of the Interact Club started a relentless pursuit to sensitize students towards the less fortunate by collecting old text books, stationery, clothes, water bottles, etc. for donating at the Goonj dropping centre in Sarita Vihar.

The Interact Club students along with Teacher-in-charge Ms. Kavita Prakash and Ms. Shikha Sharma went to visit the Goonj centre on 17th May 2016.  The students also witnessed how Goonj was using this material not only to restore the dignity of village communities but also as a tool to empower individual and villages.

The visit sensitized the students and enabled them to sympathize with those who do not receive the requisite help and support.  The students also realized that this was not charity but an opportunity to become responsible citizens and good human beings.  The students came back to school as transformed human citing the belief in kindness and sharing.  The Interact Club students also thanked Madam Principal for giving them the vision to do something for the community.
