St. Cecilia's Public School

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

On 14th August 2013, the staff and students of St. Cecilia’s Public School gathered to celebrate the 67th Independence Day of our nation.

Madam Principal Mrs. R Bhumra was escorted by the Coordinators. Head Boy Shubham Kaushal and Head Girl Simran Shaw to the Assembly ground. The programme began with the national song “Vande Mataram”. To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, Madam Principal unfurled the tricolor flag and all in unison sang the national anthem and expressed the joy of freedom. On this auspicious day, the students presented a patriotic play to pay tribute to the proud sons of Mother India who had fought bravely in the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and in the war of Kargil serving the nation tirelessly for the past so many years.

In her empowering speech Madam Principal said, “Our country which was under the foreign powers for centuries is now free and has a vision of becoming a super power because of the sacrifices of the martyrs and the army”. She also called the youth as the wealth and the hope of the nation who will lead the country and make it a great nation of the world. She also added that “Freedom is a gift, a privilege and a challenge. It does not consist in doing what one wants to do but doing what is expected to do”.

To keep alive the flame of patriotism, the students from III to V performed a patriotic dance and the students of the choir rendered a patriotic song “Maa tujhe Salaam” that awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland. Students of Class IX shared their views on the significance of the day and highlighted the importance of the day while the students of classes XI and XII presented a tableau.

Earlier in the week, an Inter house patriotic dance competition ‘Ae Mere Vatan’ was also organized for students of Classes IX and X. Students of classes XI and XII of Commerce Stream actively participated in the Label designing and Ad Mad competition. Students of classes XI and XII of Science Stream enthusiastically exhibited their sports prowess in the Sports meet organized for them by the Sports Department of the school. The primary wing conducted a quiz programme based on the rich history of pre-independence India. Classes VI – VIII conducted fun filled activities such as tattoo making and mehndi art.

At St. Cecilia’s Public School, it was indeed days of joy, love and respect for the country and the students urged to make India a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.
