2012 Open Martial Arts Championship

A Resounding Success Offering a Myriad of Experiences

 

St. Cecilia’s Public Schoolon 17th December 2012 welcomed over 125 students from schools all over NCR to the Open Martial Arts Championship giving many competitors and spectators a close-up opportunity to experience different talents of the art form. The championship began promptly with the Opening Ceremonies getting underway at 9:30am from where in the competitors were led to the venue. The ceremony continued with the Traditional Eesh stuti Vandana and Bhangra folk dance. The tournament was organized by the school management providing a large venue with plenty of space to accommodate 8 large rings. All 8 Rings were busy with action and excitement as competitors tried their best in their respective categories. The competition continued non-stop until late afternoon with the Sport Ring drawing lots of attention from spectators. The tournament was attended and supported by numerous renowned masters and personalities of the Chinese martial arts community. Ms Pooja Khosla Black Belt 3rd Dan, AIKF, also on panel with Delhi Police from Black Belt India Martial Arts Academy recognized by Ministry of Sports, Govt. of India and Mr. Pankaj Ranga, Secretary, Balak Bhavishya Sports Academy, Daulatpur were also present to encourage and applaud the participants. Chairman Sir Prof. Sewa Singh graced the occasion with his benign presence to award medals and trophies to the winners. Madam Principal Mrs. R Bhumra addressed the gathering. In her address she emphasized on the importance of physical fitness and training.

The Sports Department of the school put together a dynamic and hard working team of volunteers who attended promptly to all the competitors and judges needs. This was a big factor in insuring the smooth operation of the tournament. The demonstrations were electrifying and featured several contestants who astounded the audience with their skills. The show was filled with over two hours of exciting performances followed by yet more thrilling action. The day witnessed sparring action all day long. Soon all rings were busy with competitors vying for top placement in various categories and skill levels. There was a crescendo of action and anticipation as the finals neared. The judges did a marvelous job in controlling the fights and the audience, competitors and coaches demonstrated welcomed sportsmanship which enhanced the competition.
