Proud to be a mariner-career in Merchant Navy
Cecilian students of class XII and XI were privileged to attend a workshop on careers in Merchant Navy by renowned mariner Mr. S.P.S. Oberoi associated with Anglo Eastern Ship Management Ltd, as chief Marine Engineer since many decades. The spokes person made students aware about the undeniable presence of Merchant Navy mariners as lubricators of various world economics and trade between international sea ports.
The students were attentive as they were guided about the eligibility criteria, educational-requirement, interview skills, psychometric tests and other parameters that students need to prepare. The students were encouraged to ponder about the possibility as merchant Navy careers are multi tasking based for both girls and boys. The life of a Sea farer, opportunities to travel international ports, economic stability and growth prospects were talked about by the speaker. The students were also informed about B.Sc. Nautical Sciences from IMU. Entry in Merchant Navy after AISSCE in Physics, Chemistry and Maths or after an Engineering Degree was emphasised by the speaker.
The one career that enables one to pursue a high end career, respect for uniform, healthy lifestyle, career flexibility, social recognition are some features that sea farers experience. The interactive workshop led to an eye opening experience helping students to achieve their career aspirations.
