Mock Drill on Earthquake Preparedness

St. Cecilia’s Public School as a part of a major exercise designed by Govt. of Delhi, Directorate of Education carried out a Mock Drill on Earthquake Preparedness in the school campus on 25th April 2016 at 9:00 a.m. to mark the       1st Anniversary of Nepal Earthquake of 2015.  The mock drill was a part of a massive awareness campaign to promote disaster management as well as disaster risk reduction knowledge amongst the students.

The drill on earthquake was proposed, planned and seriously executed by Madam Shashi as guided by Directorate of Education, land and Estate Branch.  The main focus was laid on Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response to any sudden disaster.

The mock drill on Drop, Cover and Hold Exercise was done with the aim of reducing earthquake related injuries and deaths.  During the mock drill it was ensured that all exit routes are kept clear of any obstacles.  Signage along with appropriate arrow marks like “Exit”, “Entry”, “Assembly Point”, etc. were displayed at appropriate locations for safe and quick evacuation of all students.  All the teachers later took roll call to check if all have been safely evacuated.

The drill was safely conducted well within 4 minutes of recorded time.  The building was evacuated in shortest reasonable time avoiding lethargic and casual attitude.  More than 1700 students attended the mock drill followed by the special assembly.  The students of Class VIII also performed a small presentation by acting how to protect themselves if any earthquake occurs and what to do to face the calamity effectively.   The students were also informed to stay alert and vigilant in case of a natural disaster.

Madam Principal appreciated the staff members and all the students for participating with enthusiasm and eagerness.  The message that a proactive approach to disaster management reduces the destruction and damage was conveyed to all students by Madam Principal.
