Orientation cum Counselling Sessions for Parents

The new academic year being laced with newer avenues to explore and abundant goals to achieve, St. Cecilia’s Public School, Vikas Puri conducted a series of orientation programmes for the parents of the students of Class Nursery, I, VI and IX on different days with a view to harnessing the maximum participation of parents in orienting their children towards a successful future.

On 21.03.16 and 22.03.16, the Orientation session was conducted in the Junior Wing at Vikas Puri and on 28.03.16 at Junior Wing, Rajouri Garden for the parents of Nursery students. The interactive session was conducted by the Head-mistress Ms. Bhavana and Ms. Shweta respectively. The programme was organized to welcome the tiny tots and give an insight to the parents about the curriculum and teaching methodology to be followed in the school.

Orientation Programme for Class I parents was conducted on 23.03.16 by Primary Wing Co-ordinator Ms. Meena Rawat where in the parents were briefed about the early years of formal education. She also told the parents about the various teaching methodology and techniques.

Class VI Orientation cum counseling session was conducted on 02.04.16 by Middle Wing Co-ordinator Ms. Arti Parab for the parents in two different sessions. The parents were told about the CCE pattern and grading system. The parents were also informed about third language as a compulsory subject where in the child can select any one language out of Punjabi/French/Sanskrit. The language teachers – Ms. Ashpinder for Punjabi, Ms. Kanika for French and Ms. Rekha for Sanskrit also addressed the parents to enable them to make an appropriate language choice for their ward.

A Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) orientation cum counseling programme was organised for parents of students studying in class IX on two consecutive days 18.04.16 and 19.04.16. The entire schedule was conducted in four sessions of 1.5 hour each for parents of individual sections of class IX.

Parents of the Class IX students were explained how CCE gives a platform for the active involvement of students in their learning, reduces stress and produces learners with greater skills. In the scholastic area, criteria of Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment was communicated to the parents. The scholastic and the co-scholastic domains of assessment were explained concisely and clearly. Meanwhile, as a part of this programme, parents of Class IX students were informed about assessments on OTBA ie open text book assessment, problem solving, ASL ie assessment speaking and listening skills.

The school counselor Ms. Neha talked to parents after each Orientation Programme briefing them about their role as parents and the concerns of the children. All sessions observed an open ended question-answer session in the end. The queries of the parents were answered by Head Mistress, C0-ordinators and school counselor.

The Orientation Programme concluded with a clear message that it is imperative for both parents and teachers to be vigilant of children’s potential and development in order to support, inspire and encourage them to work diligently and come up to the expected levels of competence
