St. Cecilia's Public School

Capacity Building Programme on Cyber Safety and Security

St. Cecilia’s Public School organised a Capacity Building Programme on the topic ‘Cyber Safety and Security’ on 24 October 2026 to sensitise teachers towards the growing challenges of the digital world and equip them with the knowledge and strategies required to promote responsible digital behaviour among students.

The session was facilitated by the PGT Computer Science Teacher Dr. Zeba Ayaz of Rabea Girls’ Public School, Delhi and Dr. Naveen Gupta of St. Marks Sr. Sec. School, Delhi. Both resource persons brought valuable expertise in cyber security, educational technology and digital learning to the programme.

The session began with a discussion on disabilities, students’ mental health and the importance of ensuring their safety in the digital world. A key focus was laid on digital footprints and their impact, strong and unique passwords, two-factor authentication and the importance of thinking before posting online. Teachers were also sensitised to essential safety measures, including updating devices, checking application permissions and privacy settings, logging out of unused accounts and uninstalling unnecessary applications. The principle of ‘Pause, Check, Choose’ and the five practices for a safer digital life—‘Lock, Check, Limit, Report and Back Up’—were discussed to reinforce responsible digital behaviour.

The session offered meaningful perspectives on the nature of cybercrimes, their targets and methods, along with the legal framework governing cyber safety, particularly the Information Technology Act, 2000. The importance of cyber awareness and timely intervention was further highlighted through a discussion on cybercrime reporting mechanisms, including the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). Teachers were encouraged to follow the official CyberDost WhatsApp channel to remain informed about emerging scams, cyber threats and preventive measures. The resource persons also emphasised the role of educators in conducting awareness sessions and quizzes for students and integrating cyber safety tips across subjects to foster a culture of digital responsibility within the school environment.

The programme proved to be an enlightening and enriching learning experience, enhancing teachers’ understanding of cyber safety and their role in creating a secure, informed and digitally responsible learning environment.

Teachers appreciated Madam Principal’s initiative in facilitating their participation in this insightful session, which further enhanced their knowledge and awareness needed to foster safe, ethical and responsible digital behaviour among students.
