POCSO Awareness Workshop for Teaching & Group D Staff

St. Cecilia's Public School organized a comprehensive POCSO Awareness Workshop for the teaching faculty and Group D employees to strengthen child protection practices and enhance awareness of the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The workshop was graciously attended by Respected Madam Principal, along with the entire teaching faculty and Group D staff.

The session commenced with a formal welcome, during which the resource person was presented with a sapling as a token of appreciation. Through real-life case studies, Ms. Gagandeep Kaur explained the practical implementation of the POCSO Act and emphasized that the primary responsibility of school personnel is to observe, document, report, and protect, rather than investigate.

The workshop highlighted the scope of child protection beyond school premises, covering homes, neighbourhoods, transport, and digital spaces. Participants were sensitized to identify early warning signs of abuse, including behavioural and emotional changes, unexplained injuries, absenteeism, academic decline, inappropriate language or behaviour, and were guided to report concerns promptly through the prescribed school protocol while maintaining confidentiality.

Special emphasis was laid on accurate documentation, timely reporting, preservation of the child's dignity and privacy, and adherence to legal procedures. The resource person also addressed digital safety, discussing cyber exploitation, AI-generated content, inappropriate online behaviour, and the importance of monitoring students' digital well-being.

A dedicated orientation for Group D employees focused on their crucial role in ensuring children's safety in school buses, corridors, playgrounds, washrooms, and other common areas. They were instructed to remain vigilant, maintain professional boundaries, avoid unnecessary physical contact, and immediately report any suspicious behaviour or signs of distress without questioning the child.

To reinforce the learning, an awareness film depicting a child protection case was screened, demonstrating how timely intervention and responsible reporting can safeguard a child's future. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to clarify doubts regarding their responsibilities under the POCSO framework.

At the end of the workshop, Respected Principal Ma'am delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to Ms. Gagandeep Kaur for conducting an insightful and impactful session. Ma’am’s motivating words conveyed the message to each staff member that safeguarding children is a collective responsibility. Every member of the school community must remain vigilant, compassionate, and proactive in fostering a safe, respectful, and child-friendly environment. The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to uphold the dignity, rights, and well-being of every child.
