ST. CECILIA’S PUBLIC SCHOOL

EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION

VISIT TO YAKULT PLANT, SONIPAT

The Commerce Club of St. Cecilia’s Public School organised an enriching educational visit to Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd., Sonipat, on 19th August 2026. The visit was planned with the objective of providing students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of a modern manufacturing enterprise and enabling them to connect the theoretical concepts acquired in the classroom with their practical application in the real business world.

A total of 82 students of Class XI, Commerce stream, accompanied by four teacher in-charges, participated in this highly informative industrial visit.

Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd. is a 50:50 joint venture between Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd. of Japan and Groupe Danone of France. The joint venture was formed in 2005, and Yakult was launched in India in 2008. Students learnt that the company has its manufacturing facility at Sonipat, Haryana, which caters to the Indian market. The plant spreads across eight acres, follows stringent international standards of hygiene and quality. Its highly automated production system has a capacity of one million bottles per day, to be achieved in a phased manner.

The guided tour of the plant provided students with an opportunity to observe various stages of production, fermentation, bottling and packaging. They gained valuable insights into the importance of automation, precision, hygiene, quality control and efficiency in large-scale manufacturing. An informative session introduced students to the scientific foundation of Yakult and its probiotic properties. They learnt about Lactobacillus casei Shirota (SHIROTA strain) and its role in supporting gut health. The session helped students understand how beneficial bacteria contribute to digestive health and how the product is positioned as a probiotic beverage.

The visit also exposed students to important aspects of marketing, branding, distribution, consumer preferences and business operations. The interaction with company representatives provided an excellent opportunity for students to raise questions and gain a deeper understanding of how different business functions work in coordination to ensure efficiency, quality and customer satisfaction.

Most importantly, the experience brought several concepts from the Commerce curriculum to life. Students could relate classroom concepts relating to Joint Ventures, production management, marketing, quality control, distribution and management principles to their actual implementation in a successful business organisation. The visit proved to be a highly enriching, engaging and intellectually stimulating learning experience. It successfully bridged the gap between textbook knowledge and practical business operations, making academic concepts more meaningful, relevant and memorable for the students.

On behalf of the Commerce Club and all the participating students, we express our heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation to our respected Madam Principal and the schoolmanagement for their visionary approach to education and their unwavering commitment to provide students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities. Madam Principal’s constant encouragement and exemplary support in facilitating such educational visits are truly commendable.

The visit was much more than an educational excursion—it was a powerful experiential learning opportunity that inspired curiosity, strengthened conceptual understanding and brought classroom learning vividly to life.
