St. Cecilia's Public School
World Autism Awareness Week Celebration
Classes IV-XII
"Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start."
St. Cecilia’s Public School observed World Autism Awareness Week with great enthusiasm and purpose from 15th to 17th April 2026. The week was dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and acceptance of Autism Spectrum Disorder, while fostering an inclusive and empathetic school environment for all learners.
A variety of age-appropriate and engaging activities were thoughtfully planned and conducted for students across different grade levels, ranging from Grade IV to Grade XII.
Activities for Grades IV & V
Students of Grades IV and V participated in a creative drawing activity on the theme “World of My Dreams.” Through this activity, students were encouraged to express their imagination and individuality, reinforcing the idea that every child perceives and experiences the world differently.
Activities for Grades VI to VIII
For middle school students, interactive and reflective activities such as puzzle-making were conducted. As part of the activity, students were asked to reflect and respond to the question, “What makes each puzzle piece special and important in its own way?” This encouraged them to think about individuality and recognize how every person, just like each puzzle piece, contributes uniquely to the whole. Through this, students were able to creatively express their understanding of inclusivity and diversity.
Alongside these activities, structured reflective sessions were conducted to sensitize students about autism in an age-appropriate and engaging manner. Key aspects such as signs, characteristics, and experiences of individuals with autism were explained using animations and visual aids, making the concepts easy to understand. The sessions were further enriched with interactive, experience-based activities designed to help students understand sensory and communication differences. These activities enabled students to gain insight into how autistic individuals may feel and respond to everyday situations, thereby building empathy and awareness.
Senior School Involvement (Grades IX to XII)
Students of Grades IX to XII played an active role in promoting awareness by organizing a special assembly focused on autism awareness. The assembly highlighted the importance of acceptance, kindness, and inclusion.
A “Pledge Wall” was also introduced, where students expressed their commitment towards building an inclusive and respectful school community.
Creative Contributions
The Psychology students contributed by designing and preparing a blue-themed bulletin board, symbolizing autism awareness and spreading meaningful messages across the school campus.
The celebration was further enriched by an inspiring address from the Madam Principal, who sensitized students about autism and emphasized the importance of being patient, kind, and humble towards individuals with different needs.
The programme concluded with a strong message: “Inclusion is not just inviting someone to the table, but believing that they truly belong there.” Through these meaningful initiatives, the school continues to strive towards becoming a place where every student feels Understood, Included, Valued, and Accepted.
